Our 2018-2019 Read-a-thon coordinators are Julie Brown and Jen Bozek.

The Read-a-thon is a win-win fundraiser that encourages young readers and raises much-needed funds for their classrooms.

Each year a read-a-thon packet will be distributed with a reading log and other materials. It's pretty simple - your child will seek pledges from friends, families, neighbors, then they read! They can read any books or other reading material that they want, and they can also count the minutes that you read to them! They will keep track of their reading blocks and turn in daily reading coupons for a chance at a fun daily raffle drawing.  At the end of the reading period, all who achieve pre-defined reading levels will win increasingly awesome prizes, and our top readers and fundraisers will get a chance to win a LeapFrog learning tablet, a Kindle Fire or a Tuft & Needle Mattress.

Take the time to plan ahead. How will you encourage your child to do their reading? Help them set a daily reading goal. Who would they like to ask to be a sponsor? Is it possible to start a family reading time? Can you link the reading time to an at home reward? Help keep them excited to read by telling them about all the great prizes they can earn.

Our Mirada Read-a-thon is the PTO’s biggest fundraiser and takes place at the beginning of every school year. The PTO uses the money raised to fund project-based learning, reimburse teachers for classroom supplies, pay for copy paper for the school and fund events for families and field trips for our students and teachers.

Further information about the fundraiser and helpful tips will be communicated through your child’s teacher and in emails directly to you. Thank you for your help and participation in this important Mirada event.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your Read-a-thon co-coordinators.
